{빨간것} Literature is Freedom





Winterhouse Edition 이라고 William Drenttel 이 디자인한, 얼마전 사망한 수잔 손탁 Susan Sontag의 'Literature is Freedom' 이란 제목의 책이다 (paperback). 드렌텔이 손탁의 책을 여러권 디자인했다고 한다(Under the Sign of Saturn, AIDS and Its Metaphors 등). 음, 예쁘다! 빨강과 네모의 crisp 함이 인상적이다. 그러고보니 내 옆에 있는 '욕망의 사물'이라는 책 표지에도 사각형이 거의 같은 비율로 비슷한 위치에 사용되었네. 반복되는 프레임이랑 타이틀, 반전된 색깔, 그 위의 글씨와 종이 밑으로 비친 글씨로 매 프레임이 달라짐, 페이지마다 모든것이 중요한 요소로 플레이되는게 정말 이쁘다. 만져보고싶다. 새삼스럽지만 손탁이 죽었다니, 세상의 대부분의 사람이 나에게 아무것도 아니지만 어떤 사람은 아무도 대신할수 없다는게 너무나 확연해서 기분이 참 이상하다.
